But Bezos is worth $100B (as the market goes up & down) --- so $1B to him is like ~ $900 to the average American household. How many people donate $500-1,000 to Hokie Club, on an annual basis?

And many billionaires (Gates + Buffett) have been extremely generous with their foundations & donations. Not all of them are Super Scrooge.

Plus, think about the fame & prestige --- you can buy a football team, you can buy an estate, you can buy a famous painting. But think of the clout you'll have, when you can walk into a room and say "Yep, I'm the guy who saved the world!"
