Speaking from here in Europe, 3 weeks is wishful thinking

I hope you are right. And I don't have an intricate knowledge of how the U.S. is responding to this. What I can tell you is how things are going in Europe right now, and it's very dire.

I'm in France, which is on pace to catch up to where Italy was a week or 10 days ago. Right now, we have 25,000 known (COVID-tested) cases. The real number is thought to be at least 10 times that, and growing at an increasing pace every day. France just passed 1000 deaths, and that number is rising with increasing speed as well. This afternoon, a hospital in Strasbourg (in the hardest-hit area of NE France) announced 253 of its staff were COVID-positive. That's just one hospital in one city. France has essentially been on complete lockdown since last Monday. Police are in the streets, enforcing confinement measures. We are only allowed to leave our house with a government-issued attestation letter, only for max 1 hour per day, and no further than 1KM from our house. The hope is that this "flattens the curve" of the disease spread, but it's too early to tell how this will play out. We expect the French government to announce additional confinement measures, at a minimum thru mid-April but likely until early May, when schools are tentatively scheduled to resume.

In Spain, it's much worse. They are nearing 50K confirmed cases, and yesterday the Spanish military was clearing nursing homes with the dead and dying abandoned in their beds, as the staff are already overwhelmed. Numbers are growing exponentially there too.

I'm not trying to scare anyone, but please be realistic and be prepared. Nobody here took this very seriously until around a week ago, and now we are hoping to get through this, locked indoors for weeks with our kids. You need to get ready, now. This is going to get much, much worse in the U.S. over the coming weeks, and it will be everywhere. I'm sorry to say this, but hoping it will be over in 3 weeks does not ring true with what we are seeing over here. I very much hope I am wrong, for your sake. Be safe.
