This is sooo not discussion in these times, however, the issue with wifi/broadband is HUGE.
All communication forms are being connected by the broadband network, and its not going back and at a major R&D campus the connectivity is huge. I think VT Athletics and the university really got to think this through better. I don't know think Athletics want to invest in the broadband/wifi hub needed to handle peak for 70,000 folks. I don't think the university wants to invest in the athletic dept area of responsibility with university funds. I think its both....
1. data analytics of sports integrated live feed with instant analytics into your phone screens etc.
2. attendance flow and crowd control
3. research for data analytics students, and interoperability.
Just don't think the athletic dept is really up to technology. ( I really felt the outsourcing of the website, was a retreat, not impressed technology wise), but its all about revenue streams from ads.
