The reported #s are so low because so few people have been tested
Only around 2000 people in the US have been tested. South Korea is testing 1000 people *per day*. The true number of infections is the US is without a doubt orders of magnitude above what the reported numbers are, and spreading exponentially.
Once testing ramps up, the numbers are going to spike significantly. There are projections that 1/3 of the country could be infected. Even if only a small fraction of those get serious symptoms, the ones hit hardest will overwhelm our ICUs.
