As long as the power conferences/P5s and mid-majors/G5s

compete in the same division level, then I don't think the NCAA can have separate requirements. The current minimum requirement for DI is at least seven sports for men and seven for women or six for men and eight for women, with at least two team sports for each gender, and at least 1 sport for each gender for each season (Fall, Winter, Spring). I think most/all of the mid-majors/G5s would be willing to increase the minimum, but I am not sure it would be to the reasonable level for the P5s. If the P5s formed a new division, then could they survive playing against themselves particularly for the non-revenue sports?
