It looks like the men's title will be a real battle with FSU. Our top heptathlon guy had to withdraw which cost us a projected 8 points and FSU had a guy do better than expected. The results of the pole vault were a little disappointing and FSU swept the first 4 places in the long jump. Most of our projected 30 point edge is gone and it will be the usual battle with FSU. We did as well as expected in the qualifying for Saturday's finals but so did FSU. They have their usual collection of top sprinters (11 qualifiers in the 60m, 200m, 400m and 60m hurdles) and enough qualifiers in other events to make a run for the title. It could well come down to the last event which is the 4x400 relay where we are seeded first and FSU is seeded third but all 4 teams in the last heat are within a second of each other. We just need to be within 5 yards of the lead and let Jacory Patterson bring it home.
On the women's side, things are going as expected. We are still the favorite although Miami will be in striking distance if they have an exceptional meet. If it comes down to the last event, we have an advantage in that we are in the last and fastest heat while Miami is in the prior heat.
