This Weekend's Softball Preview
Fresh off an impressive weekend in the St. Pete/Clearwater Invitational, the Hokies visit Charleston this weekend for the College of Charleston Invitational. The level of competition will be a step down this weekend, but it should give Coach D’Amour and staff a chance to experiment with different lineups and get the newcomers more playing time.
Here’s the Hokies schedule:
Friday, 9:00 a.m. Army (5-5)
Friday, 11:15 a.m. Dartmouth (season opener)
Saturday, 12:15 p.m. Bradley (5-5)
Saturday, 4:15 p.m. North Carolina A&T (1-6)
Sunday, 1:30 p.m. College of Charleston (2-6)
This weekend will mark the first time that the Hokies have played softball games against Army, Darmouth, and Bradley.
The Hokies entered the national rankings this week, being ranked No. 24 by the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll, No. 25 ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Poll, and #23 by Softball America.
Things have been a bit crazy since we got back from St. Pete so I’m taking a bit of a shortcut for this weekend’s preview.
Massey has now started their softball power rankings and I love their site as they rank every team in the country and will even predict outcomes between team. The Hokies land at number 20 on their list this week with a strength of schedule of 20. As mentioned earlier, the strength of schedule will be much lighter this weekend, but the Hokies need to be focused and take care of business. When you input two teams, Massey gives you a "likely score" and a "median score."
Below is a snapshot of the weekend looks according to Massey.
Let's Go Hokies!
