I did all of the measuring myself...
...but really all you need to do is measure the overall dimensions of the room and the locations of any obstacles or appliances, and the sales team will do the design for you, so it's not as scary as you may imagine. They will draft a plan view as well as elevation views that you can take home to verify dimensions before you place the order. Our layout worked out great.
Now, full disclosure - our kitchen was relatively easy to measure since we don't have any walls with corner-to-corner cabinets, but even in that situation, the sales person will design the cabinets to be several inches smaller than the overall length, and you will span the extra distance with filler pieces. However, you do assume the risk for mis-measurememt when you sign the sales order. Also, I should note that I have been a construction superintendent for 15 years, so it's not like this was my first experience with something like this. But, I do think with a little bit of planning, it's something anyone can tackle.
If you really don't feel comfortable taking the reigns, I do believe Cabinets To Go works with installers that can help measure and handle the installation for you. If you have a branch near you, I would definitely suggest you at least stop in to speak with them and let them show you what they can do for you. If you're not near a physical store, it may be a little tricker to order on your own if you're a bit uncomfortable, but I do think you can order directly from the internet without going in-store. Don't quote me on that though.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
