Someone needs to tell our AD he needs to up his game

There are 245,000 living VT alumni according to the Drive for 25 website, of which only 5.6% actually donate to VT athletics. In addition to VT, I graduated from a graduate school, which sends me at least 2 or 3 solicitations for donations per year. From VT, only one....from the academic side, not the athletic department, and sometimes none at all.

If you go onto the Hokie club website directly (despite never being contacted by the department), you click on the donate now, and it takes you to a link, allowing you to donate however much you want, with no direction on how much to give. Contrast that to the donation letter I get from my graduate school, it comes on expensive letterhead, and asks us to donate a preset amount; $20, $50, $100, and informs us that $100 would give the most benefit. Sometimes people need direction on how much to give.

If we could get even half of the 245k alumni to donate $20 , that would be an extra $2.5 mill. Not difficult since many would donate more than that. Not impossible since nationwide, some schools average at or above 50% in alumni donations per year. Even at 33% level giving, thats $1.6 mill extra per year.

If Babcock hadn't straddled us by signing the worst sports apparel deal out of all P5 schools several years ago, we would have another $2 mill per year. Its bad when even Wake Forest makes nearly twice what we make off of our deal with Nike.

Thats potentially $3.5 - 4 mill a year that we are not making because of either poor fundraising or bad decisions by the AD.
