The first snowfall I experienced in Raleigh. Being from Rochester, NY,

when I saw a forecast for 2 or 3 inches of snow, I shrugged and said "no big deal".

Coincidentally, I decided to go grocery shopping. Not because of the snow, but just because it was time and I needed some things.

The store is fairly quiet. It's cold, but snow hasn't started falling yet. I do most of my shopping and turn into the last aisle and say to myself "What the hell? Why is the bread aisle wiped out?"

Pause....Pause....OH YEAH! The snow forecast.

Never even crossed my mind that people would do that, and certainly not for 2 to 3 inches.

BUT one good point to make in favor of those Raleigh residents. 2 inches of snow in Raleigh IS VERY different from 2 inches of snow in Rochester.

In Rochester, residual salt accumulated on the roads pretty much handles the issue, and everyone has a shovel or a plow contract or a snowblower.

In Raleigh, none of that is the case, and probably the most dangerous drivers would have been a relocated yankee in a 4 wheel drive thinking" yeah, this isn't an issue."
