That’s interesting. After reading the Patterson column on CTC, it sounded

Like he was given another chance to prove himself. It sounded like he came from a challenging Leach position, and before that, possibly made some character judgment errors that weren’t related to on field coaching.

1. It’s a new LB coaching position for him that he will need to get sped up on. He’s going to work very hard to succeed at this new job since he was trusted to do something he’s not done before as a position coach.

2. Patterson opines that he doesn’t seem to rock the boat.

3. Kill has already made a positive impact on VT opns and obviously influenced the CTC hire. As Bud is invested and will work to ensure that CJH succeeds, I would expect that Kill will ensure that CTC succeeds (and contributes positively).

4. Every day is an interview. I don’t expect him to hang around forever, but I do expect him to ensure that his DC succeeds. If he doesn’t want to retire at VT as an LB coach, then he’ll work to show how much he can contribute to winning. Not fail at his third stop in 3 years. That’s likely a recipe for disaster.

I don’t know much about any of these guys, but after seeing these hires, I have a little more confidence in the transition. Let the Buds and the Kills and the Tracys help guide the implementation of plays and game strategies and bring along the DT’s and the Lechts who will likely become the recruiting leaders of the future.

And hopefully there will be a lot of positive collaboration and backing each other up with their differing skills sets and experience / backgrounds.
