I think I would just treat them like a G5 team and be one of the schools making a road trip. They are not a conference champion, so I wouldn't treat them like one.

However if ND is unbeaten and FOUR, not FIVE unbeaten P5 teams are out there, I think I would just use the above 8-team format there.

My guiding principle is to NEVER leave out a P5 unbeaten. When teams lose, I think they throw themselves at the mercy of the committee, and that is fine. Gerttingin should be HARD. And in normal years, four is more than enough.
