"Healthy people can lose half a pound to two pounds a week." This is targeted towards women because men can drop a little more weight. When I'm "on program," I drop about 2.5 lbs/week.
Overall I think this is excellent advice for both men or women. The numbers just need to be slightly adjusted up for men.
I might be able to drop an inch from my waist in a month, but I haven't seen a larger gain. Typically ~10 pounds equates to about 1" on my waist.
