He's the HC, he can hire whoever he wants. Bud retiring, there's no bad blood with that. The defense doesn't need to be rebuilt. It makes sense to have some continuity, and build on a 30 year tradition of success.

This hire doesn't really thrill anybody, so it certainly wasn't done for that reason. JF made this hire because he thought it would give us the best chance to win games.
