All of their peers are in the same boat, feeding from the scraps. Sure, they'll lose 9 out of 10 to VT/UVA every year. But that's expected and those are mostly revenue games for them.... and the rare wins will be remembered for ages.

ODU is in the middle of the 757. The scraps in the 757 are actually still quite good. Same goes for Richmond. They need to be developing relationships in those areas so they can find the guys who are maybe .1 second too slow for P5 or maybe they're 10-20 pounds lighter or 2 inches shorter than what P5 likes... but they're still good football players.

ODU can be a decent program. I think Shane Beamer would be a mistake personally (because the above paragraph is exactly what he's NOT good at). Honestly, they should promote Stinespring IMO. If they want to go outside, there are plenty of better choices than Beamer. I think Beamer might be OK... but he's exactly what ODU doesn't need right now.

But I think he's who they hire.
