He had a good tournament overall in his 4th-ever freestyle event.


I thought the Joseph match was a 50-50 affair. While he lost 4-1, the match could have easily gone either way. Mehki's one point could have easily been two, and Joseph's takedown was a close call, that was a 3-point difference with the failed challenge.

In the 3rd place match, the takedown for four was a killer. But I think the biggest thing to clean up was the pushouts. He gave up three after getting in bad position off a failed shot. The one at the end down 5 was understandable, but the two in the first period put him behind the 8-ball. I also thought the ref was mighty quick on the passivity warnings.

One other thing I noticed... Given how ridiculous Mekhi's defense is on one leg, I wonder if the "book" on him in freestyle will be to go straight for the pushout if you snatch his leg? His opponents had one of those in both of his losses.
