Did you know documents good enough for the IRS aren't for the VA DMV?

After filling out all of the required information online and waiting 2 hours, I was told that my W-2 doesn't have my middle initial, so I can't get a "Real ID". That same W-2 I use for my federal and VIRGINIA taxes that's never caused a problem. And at no point when applying online did it say, "wait, your W-2 name doesn't match your passport name". If a meteor struck that building right now, I wouldn't shed a tear.
