He was the wrong man for the job...
We had no system, we had no offensive identity. Looking back, its clear what offensive success we had was provided mostly through some really great talent. We have perspective now on that. My how so much of it was wasted.
Perhaps it wasn't all his fault. Beamer wanted to be a tough, blue collar, smash mouth running team with a play-action passing game. Stiney was tasked with accomplishing that goal in a rapidly changing game where that wasn't as easy to do anymore. We became a multiple offense team. Jack of all trades, master of none.
