I think the issue.....


may be in the wording as to what was exactly retired. A long about the time that Oates' jersey/number was retired was when VT was changing its policies with regards to retiring jerseys as opposed to numbers so maybe they actually just retired his jersey as opposed to his number. He and Chuck are the only two retirements in baseball. Football has the most with 9(I believe) and basketball has four. A few other sports have one or two. retirements(either jersey or number).
