Realities of being young. You can play gifted youngsters at the speed positions sometimes, not that we have any truly special ones, but not so often with the big’uns. The young big’uns generally need more time. It doesn’t happen over night, some of the big guys might need 2-3 years on top of a redshirt. Which none are getting this year & now we’ve lost T. Smith.
What is more worrisome to me is how our recruiting has dropped off. I think all of this is a direct result of fans running off our former staff. They fell victim to the grass is greener & we deserve better beliefs. Like we’re something special. We can’t even get 61,000 fans in a stadium when we’re honoring the team that almost won a MNC. I had my Michigan friend text me during the Duke game wondering why we had so many empty seats in our stadium? That’s not a good look for recruiting.
Now our fans will blame this on Fuente because that’s the easy thing to do. I blame our fans who have been dragging the team down for years long before Fuente got here.
We don’t have the financial support to buy Fuente out & even if we did, I think it would be a mistake. We need to hit rock bottom & start over as a fan base.
