Just back from 1st ever trip to Orlando, Disney, and Universal
I asked for some Lounge wisdom for this trip probably a month or two ago, and I just got back.
Condensed version:
Saturday morning/afternoon - Universal Studios Island of Adventure
Saturday evening - dinner at Disney Springs
Sunday - Disney Hollywood Studios (got to the park at 6am via the ferry)
I never really had much interest in going to Disney or the other parks in Orlando before, but I was going to be there anyway for the weekend, so what the heck.
Gotta honestly say I was a little disappointed. On the plus side, the visual spectacle of everything was awesome. Walking around areas like Toy Stoy, Dr. Seuss, and Star Wars were stunning with the attention to detail and the complete immersion in those worlds.
But late-September is supposedly as off-peak as it gets, and it was still awfully crowded. I knew it was going to be expensive, but holy smokes. I'm not a huge fan of 3-D rides and that is about all they have. Only two true roller coasters between two parks and $250 worth of admission tickets just doesn't work for my tastes. Granted, they were two darned good roller coasters (Hulk at Universal and Rockin' Roller Coaster at Disney).
Just felt like everything was overpriced and required waiting in a long line. Very few of the rides suited my tastes. Outside of one nice Star Wars shop and one cool Lego store, all the shops just seemed to carry cheap, lame, touristy stuff. How many ways can you really re-imagine a set of mouse ears, anyway?
I know I probably only saw 10% of what Disney and Orlando has to offer. But the sample I got really doesn't have me itching to go back.
For half the price and twice the fun, I think I'd rather go to Cedar Point.
