Not going to happen

No one wants to have another P5 program recruiting in Texas. The Oklahoma schools have particularly strong feelings about it. About the only scenario that could get Houston in the Big 12 is if the University of Texas demanded it to the point of threatening to leave the conference if it didn't happen, which seems unlikely.

Texas covers every market in its state. TCU adds to the Dallas-Fort Worth market. If the Big 12 could figure out a way to swap Houston for Baylor, plenty of people would be happy, but that is also unlikely to happen . . . if Baylor was going to be tossed, it would already be gone.

Personally, I think the Big 12 is right not to expand. Ten schools allow for round robin play, which is much better than the nonsense of playing an opponent in another conference division twice in 12 years. But if the Big 12 did expand . . . and assuming it could not induce an existing P5 school to jump . . . it would be best served to look at UCF and either USF or Cincinnati.
