B1G academic sharing is 95% PR. No researcher collaborates based on Conf
And research is about 95% of academic collaboration.
Academic researchers collaborate based on research need, the quality/reputation of the collaborator (and their facilities), networking, and - depending upon the type of research - proximity (so you see a lot of UNC-Duke collaborations for example).
I have never once in my career heard a researcher - or, say, a faculty member writing a book - indicate he/she was collaborating with another researcher because they were in the same conference. Never - including Big 10 schools. [Post edited by marcbvtgm at 09/13/2019 11:45AM]
