Well, there is a difference

No one at Texas is discussing this and the only places you find it is where fans jabber, even if those fans have access to a byline in a newspaper. Using another fans posting as a source is not a source. The University of Texas is a source and it has never been a source for any of this conjecture. This is nothing more than various people discussing this subject and referring to each as though it was common news. It isn't.

Few things garner web site hits in the off season like conference realignment chatter, this forum exists because of it on this website. That does not make it relevant and it certainly does not make it meaningful as in interest by Texas in actually moving.

Listing a bunch of news articles that all based on speculation and then source each other as corroboration is not news. Journalism is not what it used to be.

The only instances of schools thinking of jumping conferences has been the brief dalliance for reason never admitted too, by Texas and Oklahoma to the Pac12. The details of those discussions have never come to light and probably never will. Was it serious? Was it a ruse? Was it something and presented to look like a move. We will not likely know. The other instance was when Florida State, Georgia Tech and Clemson gave some consideration to leaving the ACC for the Big-12. Like the Texas/Oklahoma thing, we will never know for sure what really happened and how and why it was under taken. Neither case followed through to the end and it is just as interesting as why it almost happened as to why it didn't.

But, to be clear, no one but fans on boards and obscure websites trying to garner hits have discussed this. The people that actually matter, the ones that make these decisions have not been talking about this except to say they would never consider it, until they do. That is how it is in this industry, nothing happens until it does and seldom will anyone know about it until it is a done deal.
