We could give 1.5x schollies for every starting position in a sport. Cut back Football to about 33 (22x1.5) or 50 (33x1.5) if you count Special teams. And but back BBall to about 9 or 10.
It is the emphasis on football that creates a deficit on other sports. I guess you can blame that on Title IX. IMO a college atmosphere should embrace and encourage a wide range of experiences and opportunities for all students. The thought of eliminating a bunch of sports to focus on chasing national championships for the fans in football is awful. I guess if you like football (or basketball) and nothing else then that thought is OK.
