Will step up to fill in the supply. Plus, now you have dealers who are going to be even faster to use guns to sell their product & protect themselves because of such dire consequences if caught. Which causes a whole lot more death on the streets some of which will surely be innocent people.
He argued it was better to take the money away from the suppliers which got rid of any incentive to supply the drugs & then set about curing the problem. Theorizing that most people don’t want to be addicts & that with help can get cured. If they were not classified as criminals or forced into prostitution their self esteem would be higher enabling them to help themselves more.
Keep in mind I heard this threory in 1980. I don’t have any idea if Dr Mandelstamm came up with this theory. He just presented it using basic supply & demand analysis. We all thought it was nuts at first but he was fairly convincing in his explanation. I don’t know if I’ve explained it exactly as he would’ve but given the years that have past & the fact that the problem seems worse, I believe he has been right all along.
