We think of it as a learning experience for the medical profession.


She was the first adult transplant in RVA, so she (and we) knew there were risks.

We knew the surgeon. He worked on my mom a year or 2 earlier. My dad said he wanted the best, and asked him if he was. Doc said, maybe 3rd or 4th....in the world. Dad checked around and several said he was being humble. No worse than 2nd or 3rd, behind Starzl in Pittsburgh.
He's the reason (and her comfort and faith in him) her actual transplant was so successful.

She got a 3 year bonus with her kids and a lot of information was gathered. We do miss her.
