With humans, a higher being makes that choice.

With animals, we are usually left with that choice. I am not a higher being and just hate it.

My avatar is the last one I did. I told her that she was the best dog I ever had, and I found her on the side of the road.

My husky was one year after her. I had pack the car knowing it was time. I prayed to a higher being just as I was ready to pack him and told that higher being I did not want to make that choice. That husky immediately looked at me with love in his eyes and passed within 30 seconds of asking.
