My problems with Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (spoilery)

1. My main problem is that QT has needed a new editor since 2010, when his long standing editor died. QT tends to ramble, so his old editor cut the final product to keep things tight and moving. Not anymore - the editor appears to let QT be QT and as a result, his films now drag. You can experience this first hand on Netflix, where there is a 'series' version of Hateful Eight that restores a lot of the edits to stretch the film to around, what, 6 hours?

2. Did I buy the relationship between Rick and Cliff? Not sure. I bought Rick as a character, but I have to suspend disbelief when I consider someone as clearly confident and competent as Cliff would relish playing wing-man/errand boy to Rick his whole career, at considerable expense.

3. Margot Robbie had little to do as Sharon Tate.

4. I love the way QT constructs a scene. Dialogue is his forte, and when he does it right it creates scads of tension. But in OUATIH, his tension building efforts often had little payoff.

Take the sequence at the ranch. Cliff wants to see his old friend. The kids won't let him because he's asleep and doesn't want to be disturbed. QT drags this sequence out for several minutes as Cliff defies the kids, approaches the house, confronts Squeaky Fromme, and finally reaches his friend's bedroom door. The tension has been building steadily as we are about to see what the kids are trying to hide - a corpse? Something worse?

But no, it's just as the kids said, the guy is asleep. They have a chat, and Cliff leaves. Ho hum.

There was a great payoff to the tension at the climax. Had other sequences been constructed this way it would have been a better experience.

5. Would Cliff last longer than 2 minutes against Bruce Lee in a real fight?
