There are 2 HS. Spotswood now gets its students between McGaheysville
and Harrisonburg. Also, I believe the lines were redrawn so it impacted the other County HS (Broadway and Turner Ashby) too. Broadway lost some students to Spotswood (northeast part of Rockingham Co) and TA lost some students to Broadway (western half of Rockingham Co). Of course the County grandfathered some students so they could finish out HS in the same school and maybe their siblings could attend the same HS. However, it wasn't enough to cause any of the HS to have to leave the Valley District when the next 2-year cycle came up.
FWIW my dad worked at Broadway (math teacher and assistant principal), Stonewall Jackson in Mt Jackson (principal), Spotswood (assistant principal) and Rockingham Central Office so he explained to me how VSHL worked when I was in middle school and even allowed me to read the VHSL handbook whenever a new one came out. I guess you could say I was a "geek" when it came to sports and sports admin. It also helped that he started taking me to HS athletic events when I was very young. While he was at Broadway, I got to see Dell Curry and Ralph Sampson play when they were in HS.
