My 2 guesses...


First, donating to the VTAD means a portion of the $100 will inevitably be shaved off for administration etc. So for every $100 donated through VTAD...some lesser fraction probably makes its way to VT Wrestling program.

Second, and more importantly, SERTC has WAY more discretion on how best to apply those $100 to improve the program without the restrictions.
