But Fuente had a dumpster fire simmering beneath the surface. The recruiting gap created in Beamer's last year or two gutted the program. At first, it looked like Fuente might just navigate the waters through the gap.... but then the most talented JRs left for the NFL after 2017, the next most talented found their way out via other means, and the rest just weren't ACC caliber players.... leaving us to play 2018 with 2020's team.... We literally just had a team of guys who weren't even close to ready. We were playing with damn near our third string on defense.
