I'm not sure the fan interest is going to fall off that much or fast

I would probably agree that it has reached it's peak, but that doesn't mean it still won't have enormous interest.

The question is how much participation is going to drop and will that drop eventually impact the game. I suspect that most of the kids that are not going to play football because of the risk of brain injuries will tend to come from socio-economic groups that don't represent much in major college or pro football. I know that participation at my son's HS is less than 1/2 what it was 10 years ago which is about when the discussions of brain injuries started. Many parents I have talked to won't let their kids play as a result.

The other big dynamic is lawsuits. I think HS's will be the first to shut down football as a result of legal risk, smaller colleges next, there may be enough money in big time CFB game to keep it going. Pro will just have to factor those costs into their business model.

In the end, like boxing, it is now known that as a pro player you are trading your long term health for money.
