They brought Redick over as a veteran presence...

The reason Redick played a ton of minutes in Philly is because they always had Ben Simmons (who did not attempt a 3 pointer last season) and Joel Embiid on the floor for 40+ minutes

You have to surround those guys with shooters...Jimmy Butler wasnt cutting it, Tobias Harris helped a bit, but Redick's role is always going to be much larger with that squad

While his shot his funky, Lonzo Ball is a much better shooter than Ben Simmons (who was Philly's primary ball handler) and Zion should be comparable if not better than Embiid at stretching the floor. So you dont need him as much as Philly did. But he is a great presence to teach their young core how to win and prepare.

The biggest factor in Redick's diminished role, however, will be rhe roster construction of younger players. Redick stealing development minutes from younger players goes against all schools of thought in how to bring along your first round picks.

Just as you said they didnt bring Redick over to sit the bench, they didnt draft NAW to sit either. And when making a decision for a young team who wont compete for a playoff spot, you always always always play the young players for two reasons

1) development...duh
2) higher chance at a better draft pick next summer
