Emotionally, yes. But the Commonwealth hasn't been strong for a few years.


We need to do a better job of closing on our top targets regardless of geography.

I would state the recruiting challenges as:

1. Bud's status is hurting us,
2. A 6-7 season is really hurting us,
3. Fuente isn't a great recruiter. Average, but not great,
4. On D, we have always been a tweener system, so the slow DB's became OLB's, slow OLB's became MLB's, slow MLB's became DE's and slow DE's became disruptive DT's. That system inherently doesn't create NFL defenders. We still have had some NFL players, but mostly DB's where that trickle down tweener system has no impact and guys who have bumped up the chart (DE's to OLB's in the pros, for instance). This entire philosophy has always hurt defensive recruiting,
5. We have lost favor in state.
