maybe they think they can still get state money to build facilities if the school owns the infrastructure. That raises questions about rent, etc.. It also raises questions along the same lines for already existing facilities. As far as paying players, if the school/team is competing in NCAA competition seems they would be subject to NCAA rules. The issue of public versus private entities create a host of other considerations and safe to say there are probably going to be some unanticipated consequences.
