Depends...like any modeling tool it is as good as the data it is modeling


I have used them for a variety of purposes and in many they are useful. Usually when prioritizing investments or projects (cost vs benefits).

I've seen them used by HR and those uses seem to fall into the trap that most HR measures fall into...subjectivity and inability to compare between raters. Unless you have very objective measures, your results are just a formal model of subjective information.
