I think if you know you'll be a first rounder, it is dumb NOT to go.


Especially with the rookie pay structure. That's big money for anyone, but in a way, the rookie (and early years) NBA pay structure can actually hold people back from their max potential. If you think you're going to be big time, it's best to get into the league early so by your mid-20's you can be making bigger money sooner. A 19-year old rookie and a 23-year old rookie are treated the same pay wise. Let's face it, you only have so many years to make money, why play for free? And that;s hard for me to say, because I am very romantic about college basketball.

However, for players, the advice needs to be good. There are quite a number of kids who declared early and didn't get drafted. The people that told NAW he'd be a mid-first rounder were right.
