If you actually.

considered what was said you might be better able to "assess" the situation. It was not an attack on either player but, an observation that your individual stations in life have created blindspots. It is fine to assess a situation intrinsically, however, the blindspot is ignoring the physical realities when making an already dubious attempt to compare players across generations. Bigger, faster and stronger is a reality not a punch line. There are always players from one generation that could play in another generation West, the Big O, Wilt, Jabbar, Chris, etc. but, the fact of the matter is the guys they would be playing against are on balance bigger, faster and stronger as a whole and it would be naive to believe that would not impact their ability to influence a game in the same manner as they historically did. That physical difference is even more pronounced in a sport like football.

Nobody is saying the past is a dumpster fire or that people should ignore the past rather than appreciate it and learn from it. However, there are those of us from your generation or at least much closer to it than the youngsters of today that refuse to ignore physical realities or adopt the rallying cry of "the older I get the better I was" mindset. Again, the point is that while trying to compare players from different generations makes for interesting talk over a beverage it is a dubious, at best, exercise in reality.
