It isn't an epidemic. You can't "catch" it from someone, which is the definition of epidemic.

It's also a huge problem because it can't be slowed down like an epidemic can.

Thank God for naloxone. I wonder how many people have been saved by that drug. Even so, a dose costs $5. A two pack of injectors SELLS for $4500 (2016 data) in the US, but it's free in many places. In Great Britian, a dose sells for about $7. (per Wiki)
