I've always been wary of doing that. BEFORE you go out and interview


and get that new offer, there are ways to ask for a raise and imply that you'll have a look around if it doesn't happen, but even that can lead to being asked to 'document your processes' and then some whispering or management talk about you being "disloyal", but if you focus on your value to the company to justify a raise, and they don't accommodate you, then go on some interviews and TAKE the job offer from whoever it is. If the company tries to bribe you back at that point, let them politely know "you had your chance. sorry"
