South Carolina model is probably the only chance of changing recruiting..

SC experienced a lot of success by hiring BIG NAME coaches in Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier. That success was somewhat muted primarily because they play in the SEC, but a few of those gamecock teams would have easily won ACC titles. They did however, enjoy a nice bump in recruiting in several of those years. South Carolina became part of the national conversation after Holtz/Spurrier because they hired coaches with national recognition.

While many people say no coach could change VT recruiting, only money, I'm probably the opposite. There are MANY schools out there (WVU or UVA to name a couple) who have budgets that dwarf ours, but they routinely are behind us in recruiting and w/l's.

What holds VT back is CREDIBILITY. We still remain largely a regional name, not a national one. We are perceived as 2nd tier, and "less than".

If Fuente isn't the guy, and its looking like it could go either way, I would like to see us pursue a big name.even if we know its a short term deal. A Bob Stoops type, or someone like that who can bring some gravitas to the program.
