If you look at how he structured his coaching staff while at FSU
then it would look like he may have always been more a CEO than HC.
1996 Coaching Staff
Bobby Bowden, Head Coach
Chuck Amato, Assistant Head Coach, Linebackers
Mickey Andrews, Defensive Coordinator, Defensive Backs
Jeff Bowden, Wide Receivers
Ronnie Cottrell, Tight Ends, Recruiting Coordinator
Scott Fountain, Graduate Assistant, Offensive Line
Jim Gladden, Defensive Ends
Odell Haggins, Defensive Line
Jimmy Heggins, Offensive Line
John Lilly, Graduate Assistant, Defensive Backs
Mark Richt, Offensive Coordinator, Quarterbacks
Billy Sexton, Running Backs
Dave Van Halanger, Strength and Conditioning
2007 Coaching Staff
Bobby Bowden, Head Coach
Jody Allen, Defensive Ends, Special Teams Coordinator
Chuck Amato, Executive Head Coach, Linebackers
Mickey Andrews, Associate Head Coach, Defensive Coordinator, Secondary
Dexter Carter, Running Backs
Lawrence Dawsey, Wide Receivers
Jimbo Fisher, Offensive Coordinator, Quarterbacks
Odell Haggins, Defensive Tackles
Bob LaCivita, Dir of Player Personnel
John Lilly, Tight Ends, Recruiting Coordinator
Chris St. John, Graduate Assistant
Todd Stroud, Strength and Conditioning
Rick Trickett, Assistant Head Coach, Offensive Line
Jason Woodman, Graduate Assistant
For Chuck Amato, there may be no difference in responsibilities between "Associate Head Coach" and "Executive Head Coach." Only difference is the size of the paycheck. It is possible that Bobby Bowden was more HC than CEO during the 80s or part of a decade (i.e. 80s or 90s).
