Of course you didn't, but when speculating on a "terrible downside risk"...


...it's the logical outcome NOT to sign him if doing so is so potentially terrible.

The way you posed the question made it sound like you are fearful of signing him. Perhaps you could have raised the issue in a more open ended manner, letting others draw the conclusion you may/may not be in favor of?
