Is a high average star ranking....

the primary consideration? This is not a post saying star rankings are not relevant, they certainly are. However, in the grand scheme of things the actual average star ranking, particularly with a smaller class, may not be as important as actually filling needs. In VT's case if they got a class filled with four star WR's and LB's it might not be as beneficial as getting a class that contains some solid three star talents at DT and RB. Just my opinion but, far too many knee jerk reactions to recruiting results as opposed to being patient and using some perspective in considering results in the context of needs in the program. Unless there is a huge shift in certain philosophes and practices at VT their recruiting will never be the same tier as Bama, Clemson, Ohio State, etc.. That does not mean VT cannot compete it just places a much higher premium on evaluation, development and retention.
