It may be more like the highest ranked G5 team earning an automatic bid to the 4-team Playoff and the second highest ranked team earning an automatic bid to the NYD6 bowl game regardless of their ranking. In both cases, most people would say that a "more deserving" (P5 team) is left sitting at home because the Playoff Inc. decided the G5s should receive 2 bids to their postseason to help "develop" the game among those schools.

FWIW there have been several soccer games with a lopsided score. If we are going to compare it to college basketball, then yesterday's game is probably more like a game between UConn (Women's) vs. Hollins University (DIII). The reason I used a woman's game as an example is because there is a much greater gap between DI and DIII in the women's game than in the men's game.
