Last season, there were 13 players with double-digit sacks...

...out of roughly 250 starting edge rushers (assume two per team and roughly 125 FBS teams).

Is is a bit surprising that VT hasn't had one -- given how great our defenses have been over the years? Sure. But many of the double-digit sack guys were from G5 conferences -- they were really good players playing against weaker competition:

Louisiana Tech, East Carolina, Northern Illinois, Old Dominion, Northern Illinois (again), Utah State, and Tulane.

There were also some P5 guys -- Kentucky, Florida, Syracuse (x2), Iowa.

I would also wonder if there aren't some high-powered offenses on that list -- I wonder if playing with big leads and getting teams in obvious throwing situations where the O needs chunk plays doesn't perhaps pad those stats. Just a thought.

With the changes in the way the game is played (less vertical passing -- much more horizontal, RPOs, etc.), I don't see it as some kind of indictment on VT's talent or scheme that we don't have double-digit sack guys. JMO.
