I saw him a couple times within a couple days many years ago.


at the Barns of Wolftrap. The shows were word-for-word the same, even his accompanist "made a mistake" on the clarinet both times which lead to some humorous looks and banter.

Make no mistake, he may have had this laid back persona but the guy was a consumate pro. (not that you're going to make that mistake) But that's the idea, right? work hard to make it look so easy.

He was fun because you could step outside of all the current trends and just feel like you were hearing music for the first time. Had no idea he wasn't much older than myself, figured he'd be 80 or 90 by now or 127. An original, the fish that swam the other way.

Darn it.
