Even if the pro and college season runs at the same time

NBATV and MLB Network could still show collegiate games. For example, NBATV could show college games during the day on a holiday (i.e. Veteran's Day, New Year's Day, etc.) or on the weekend especially if the NBA games are being played late afternoon or at night. MLB Network may be a little more trickier to find room since MLB games are played in the afternoon every day of the week.

Also, if NBATV morphs into BasketballTV and MLB Network morphs into the Baseball Network, then the channel may want to broadcast more than just 1 pro league's games.
