The offense was terrible for over a decade. Now it was covered up with a few great skill players, but the OL and the O scheme were very poor, especially the latter.

Not losing to UVa in that time period and playing in a weak division and conference kinda helped mask the problems as well. But even then, as you laid out above, the recruiting began to go down hill accordingly.
